Maison San Filippo, an all-day eatery on the quiet side of Parioli, is one of my top dining discoveries of this year.
Flanking Villa Ada park, on a leafy corner of Rome’s most exclusive residential districts, Maison San Filippo does a bit of everything, while managing to remain an exclusive and intimate spot for dinner.
This year’s outdoor tables trend has ensured that Maison San Filippo now has adequate outdoor dining space, while its corner position and white table cloths – against the long wall of the park – give this charming eatery an almost Parisian air.
While Maison San Filippo is known in the area as a great spot for breakfast, a coffee, a quick lunch or evening drink, it really comes into its own as a restaurant.
Don’t be fooled by the all-day offer – this is a top quality restaurant serving some of the freshest fish in Rome.
What made the dinner particularly special was the attention and expertise of our server, who selected some great wines to go with the meal. Also, a great olive oil on the table from Agricola Doria underlined how far the details really matter.
My dinner kicked off with this selection of raw prawns, lightly dressed with salt and olive oil for the perfect no frills antipasti. These prawns were incredibly fresh and flavourful – a real treat.
I kept with the fish theme for my first course – handmade ravioli stuffed with scallops and served with a bisque-style sauce. The exceptional flavours of the sea from these tender and chunky ravioli made this an exceptional dish.
I was still a bit hungry so I plumped for a fillet steak for second course. This was another huge success, with the chef competently cooking the steak to my rare preferences. This was served with seasonal vegetables and a dollop of homemade hummus. Absolutely delicious!
You don’t have to live in Parioli to plan a dinner at Maison San Filippo – it is definitely worth going out of the way for a meal at this exceptional restaurant and all-day eatery. The restaurant also provides home delivery, so it’s an excellent option when you can’t be bothered to cook, or want to bring a special meal into the comfort of your own home.
Highly recommended and one to try out, when in North Rome!
