Mirabelle Restaurant Rome, the seventh floor restaurant at the Splendide Royal Hotel in Rome, is one of the best restaurants in Rome with a view.
Offering open air dining in the warm months of the year on one of Rome’s best roof terraces, overlooking Villa Borghese, Mirabelle is still one of the best restaurants in Rome with a view during winter. From the end of October, the wrap-around terrace is closed under glass and heated snugly with burners, without interrupting its peerless views of Saint Peter’s in the Vatican.
Views aside, choose Mirabelle Restaurant for assured, gourmet dining in the safe hands of chef Stefano Marzetti, who had been guiding the ample kitchen brigade here for around a decade. Mirabelle is perfect for a romantic dinner or anniversary, or simply a decadent occasion to enjoy good company, fine food, and impeccable service.
I recently visited Mirabelle Restaurant in Rome to try a la carte dining on its wraparound terrace, and to check out its reputation as one of the best restaurants in Rome with a view. Positioned on the seventh floor of the five star Hotel Splendide Royal, minutes walk from Via Veneto and running parallel to Rome’s green lung, Villa Borghese, it’s an easy spot to reach from the centre, with the closest metro stop Piazza Barberini.
I visited during December, so the terrace was closed to the elements, but the snug glass panelling meant that its breathtaking Rome views were well-preserved. Despite encountering a shower of rain, we were in fact treated to a rainbow arcing across the treetops of Villa Borghese.
While we ordered, petits fours arrived to whet our appetite, alongside home-baked bread. I selected a bold, gourmet starter, an homage to Heston’s Blumenthal’s meat fruit creations, comprising foie gras terrine wrapped in mandarin gel.
My dining companion tried a Rocher of artichoke and Roman mint, with organic robiola cheese, and a fresh, seasonal puntarelle salad.
We next moved on to the first course, and decided to take advantage of the season white truffle menu. Our waiter showed us the prize-worthy white truffle, sourced from Le Langhe in Piedmont, which we would be eating. It was compelling evidence of the quality and care shown at Mirabelle Restaurant to source the best seasonal ingredients for its customers.
The white truffle was carefully shaved over our white truffle and hazelnut risotto at the table, which was creamy and fragrant perfection. Please note, I asked for a small portion as I was dining at lunch, so expect a regular-sized dish to be larger.
Next up, we moved on to the main course menu, where I selected a sustainably-sourced tuna cheek on burrata and broccoli rabe with spicy nduja. This was an exceptional dish – the tuna had a butter-soft texture and luxuriously buttery taste. The burrata added a silky touch while the bitter greens balanced the plate.
It was time for dessert and we were in a bit of a quandary, as Mirabelle Restaurant is legendary for its dessert menu! I ordered this succulent take on a Neapolitan baba, a rum baba on seasonal pumpkin salsa with chestnut and meringue crumble.
My dining companion ordered Mirabelle Restaurant’s famous seventh heaven dessert, made from dark chocolate-covered chocolate mousse, with a hazelnut truffle and edible gold leaf.
The dining experience was crowned with petits fours to accompany the last of our wine, as the sun set beyond Villa Borghese.
All in all, lunch at Mirabelle Restaurant in Rome was a sensational experience. The restaurant transmits a sense of assured luxury, with immaculate table service and excellence in the kitchen. Stefano Marzetti is a chef at the height of his powers, creating dishes that dig deep into the traditions of Italian cooking, while pushing the boundaries of modern European cuisine. The experience is one of appropriately-priced luxury, while the service and the location definitely make it one of the best restaurants in Rome with a view!
Highly recommended.
