The Student Hotel Rome is one of the most exciting projects to come to the Eternal City in recent years. Building on the success of The Student Hotel Group across Europe, Rome will finally have it’s very own The Student Hotel.

What will it look like, what will the prices be like, and what will the facilities be? Read on for my advance review of The Student Hotel in Rome.

The Student Hotel Rome: 2022 timeline

The project for The Student Hotel Rome will support the regeneration of the San Lorenzo district in Rome, revamping the area for the local community, and expanding the availability of student housing in the city. With this new location, plus The Student Hotel Belfiore which is under construction in Florence, The Student Hotel will have a total of five locations in Italy.

Construction of the Rome development will officially start in March 2022. The 396-room hotel with a floor area of over 22,750 m2 and a total investment of over €90m by TSH is due to open in winter 2023/24.

The location will include a restaurant, a bar, meeting and co-working spaces and a gym, but also a public park of over 15,000 m2 that is accessible to all.

So, all you will be able to see and experience in 2022 is some pretty serious construction work as the outline for the Student Hotel Rome takes shape!

The Student Hotel Rome: opening 2023

If construction of The Student Hotel Rome is on time, expect the project to open its doors in the winter of 2023. Although the name might make you think it’s exclusively for students, this project will be open for everyone!

Perhaps you would like to use The Student Hotel Rome for a little co-working, have a bite to eat in its restaurant, or use the gym? Full packages will be released in 2023, which is when we expect to have an idea of the prices of The Student Hotel Rome.

However, based on the prices of The Student Hotel Florence, expect rooms to start from around €90 a night at The Student Hotel Rome – which is good value for Rome, but also in keeping with its location in San Lorenzo.

The Student Hotel Rome: a sustainable project

The development project for The Student Hotel Rome is targeting a BREEAM Very Good rating and adherence to the EU Taxonomy, which will make it one of the most sustainable new projects in the city.

The financing for The Student Hotel Rome is also set to be sustainable in nature. The Student Hotel Group recently reached an agreement with Italian bank UniCredit for social and environmental impact financing of €145m for the development of both the two new locations in Rome San Lorenzo and Florence Belfiore.

SACE, the financial insurance company specialised in supporting the growth and development of businesses and the Italian economy through a wide range of tools and solutions, supports the financing with a green guarantee of €54m.

Says Charlie MacGregor, founder and CEO of The Student Hotel: ‘We are very pleased to announce a social and environmental impact financing agreement with UniCredit, further strengthening our relationship that was established in 2016, and with support from SACE.

‘The sustainable and impact finance terms align with TSH’s continued commitment to minimize our environmental impact and maximize our impact on local communities as part of our growth strategy.

‘We are proud to be able to redevelop these previously underdeveloped areas in Rome and Florence to become exciting locations where the local communities, guests, students, companies can come together.’

TSH and UniCredit have agreed to include impact financing terms in the form of a discount on the interest rate, which TSH has committed to reinvest by providing students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds scholarships in the form of rent reductions.
