The opening on Thursday of Testaccio’s Spring Beer Festival has got us foaming at the mouth… so here’s the full programme of events. Remember, it’s free to get in!

Brewers

Over 15 Italian brewers and a few important international names will be present at the four day beer festival. From Italy, look out for Birrificio Emiliano, Maiella, Opperbacco, Retorto, Hibu, Piccolo Birrificio Clandestino, Brewfist and Birrificio degli Archi. Representing the Lazio region alone, there will be Birradamare, up-and-coming Birrificio Aurelio from Ladispoli and prize-winning brewers Revelation Cat and Birra del Borgo, as well as Stavio and itinerant producers Buskers. From north Lazio’s province of Viterbo, look out for names like Turan, Birrificio Itineris and Free Lions.  On the international front, Switzerland’s Bad Attitude are taking part while from Denmark, there’ll be the To Ol Brewery.

Workshops

There will be a full programme of workshops in Italian over the four days (each costing €10). These will include a session on types of craft beers, tasting techniques and the official analysis procedures carried out by the ADB Lazio (Associazione Degustatori Birra) Thursday 4 April at 18.00 and Friday 5 April at 19.00.  Beerbaccione Beershop are running a workshop on IPA ( Indian pale ale) on Friday 5 April at 20.00, and another on tasting and food matching (Sunday 7 April 16.30).  There’s another workshop on special beers (Saturday 6 April 17.30).  Just in case you get peckish, there’s a cheese workshop on Friday at 18.00 and another on Saturday at 15.30, while cold cuts and cured meats take centre stage on Saturday 6 April at 16.30 and Sunday at 15.30. Sunday 7 April 11.30 there’ll be a live, public fermentation with the ADB Lazio, Beerbaccione Beershop  and the association Homo Luppolo.  Sunday afternoon will mark the turn of a Cake design workshop with Ritorta at 17.30.

Music

Every evening, as well as musical aperitifs coordinated by Wasabiradio, live music will be provided by different bands from Lazio. Here’s the run down: I Presi per Caso, a group formed by inmates, former inmates and their mates (4 April). Rockabilly strummers RDM – Ragni da Marte (5 April). U2 cover band The One International (6 April).  See you there. Cheers!
