Wine and wellness in Rome

Wine and wellness in Rome at Villa Simone

The ArcheoRunning approach to wine and wellness in Rome involves a 30-minute car ride with private driver out to the Castelli Romani, a collection of beautiful hilltop towns just outside Rome.

Although you can reach some of the towns in the Castelli Romani with public transport, an air-conditioned ride with private driver is the most civilised way to get there! The Castelli Romani are renowned for wine making and agricultural excellence, making this a mouthwatering prospect.

The destination for the ArcheoRunning wine and wellness experience in Rome is Villa Simone – an historic winery in the town of Monte Porzio Catone, not far from the town of Frascati. You may have heard of Frascati if you are passionate about Italian wines. The closest wine-making region to Rome, it used to be the home to fairly rustic wines, but the quallity has increased hugely in the past few decades.

Today, the wineries of Frascati produce not only Frascati Doc, but also aged Malvasia wines, plus refined reds combining the local Cesanese grape with popular Italian varieties such as Sangiovese. At Villa Simone, a true family affair, expect to learn all about the grape harvest and the varieties grown with enologist and owner Lorenzo Costantini and his knowledgeable daughter Sara.

Villa Simone is a charming ancient home with stacked terraces overlooking the vineyards and hills. In fine weather, brunch or lunch is served on the upper terrace with peerless views, under a canopy to protect you from the sun.

A selection of wines are served with local, carefully sourced foods to help you really enjoy and experience the flavour spectrum of each wine and learn how to serve it yourself.

The wellness part of the experience is handled by an experienced team of sports and wellness masseurs that regularly collaborate with Isabella. Expect a massage lasting just under an hour in one of the charming lodges at Villa Simone.

The best thing of all about a wine and wellness experience is its ability to make you relax. There’s no finer combination to brush away your cares and set you up for a great night’s sleep!
