Kisaki Ramen & Sushi is the latest Japanese restaurant in Rome meeting the demand for high quality ramen, sushi, sashimi and tempura in the Eternal City. With an emphasis on specialising in ramen, one of the latest trends to hit the capital, Kisaki Ramen & Sushi picks up the gauntlet with an all-Japanese staff, refined restaurant, and an unbeatable location near the Pantheon in the heart of Rome.
Ramen, the Japanese noodle dish, arrived as a food trend in Florence in recent years and has only just started to conquer hearts in the capital, with still-limited options if you want to find a good Japanese restaurant in Rome. The Piramide area of the city had become synonymous with a selection of sushi bars, but as these have been frequently blighted by a race to the bottom to serve all-you-can-eat formulas, there is still an ample gap in the market for a quality offering in the capital.
Diners at Kisaki Ramen & Sushi can choose from three Ramen types, before adding select ingredients of their choice to amplify the dish. These options are Shio Ramen, a chicken and pork broth served with noodles; Miso Ramen, miso soup with noodles; or Shoyu Ramen, pure chicken broth with noodles. Additional ingredients include slices of cooked pork, boiled egg marinated in miso, chives, and white steamed fish.
We tried a selection of items from the menu, including salmon sashimi, a selection of sushi, Miso Ramen with extra pork, fish, egg and chives, as well as california rolls and a delicate green tea ice-cream. The kitchen is led by talented chefs Fujiwara di Nagasaki and Mayumi di Mei, originating from a village near Osaka. Apart from the fresh ingredients, all of the essentials are sourced directly in Japan. Considering the location, the prices are reasonable, with miso starting from €9 a bowl, just for the essentials.

The restaurant’s elegant, black interiors manage to avoid a kitsch vibe with wood beamed ceilings and its discretely spaced 40 covers. Recommended for anyone keen to find a Japanese restaurant in Rome achieving that difficult balance between price, quality and location.
